​An unabridged Death certificate is a computer generated printout showing the full details of the person who died and details surrounding their death. 

It contains more information than the abridged version and can be be Authenticated at DIRCO.


 

EXPEDITING EXISTING APPLICATIONS

Assistance with existing applications for Unabridged Death Certificates:

Should you have already submitted an application at home affairs, we are able to have this application processed and authorisation to print the certificate sent to the branch of application where you will be able to collect your certificate when ready.

Please contact the place of Burial or Cremation and request the Notice of Death as we will need this document to assist us in this process.
NB The certificate will be ready at the initial branch of application should you have made more than one application at various branches

We offer to save you time, energy and effort by applying at a local branch of home affairs for your Unabridged Death Certificate on your behalf. We will have this application moderated at head office and authorisation to print the Unabridged Death certificate sent to the branch, from where we will collect it.
Please contact the place of Burial or Cremation and request the Notice of Death as we will need this document to assist us in this process.
The certificate can be collected from our offices in person, or by your courier. We can also have the documents couriered to you and will get a price from our couriers when supplied with a return address.


The process takes on average 3 to 5 weeks.

 

Older Death certificates

We can have a Historian seek out the death notice at the National archives for deaths recorded before 1978. The Death Notice will assist in having the unabridged death certificate processed
